'Monroe Madam' free on bond
NEW YORK (AP) - A Hudson Valley mother accused of running a high-end New York City escort service is out of jail on bond. She'd been held four months in the headline-grabbing case.
Anna Gristina walked out of a Manhattan courthouse Tuesday night, free for the first time since her February arrest. A judge signed off earlier Tuesday on arrangements for her $250,000 bail.
The Scotland-born Gristina is a mother of four who tends to rescued pigs at her home in Monroe. The Manhattan district attorney's office says she also made millions of dollars as madam for 15 years and boasted of having law-enforcement contacts.
Gristina has said she was merely starting a matchmaking service. She has pleaded not guilty to promoting prostitution.
An appeals court recently cut her $2 million bail to $250,000.
