NEWBURGH, N.Y. -- Cardinal Timothy Dolan visited the Sacred Heart Church in Newburgh to help the parish celebrate its 100 year anniversary.

Over the 100 years, parishioners have worked hard to improve the church and continue to upgrade it, as well as the rectory and school.

Father Bill Scafidie says he's proud of what his parish has done to help the City of Newburgh and also thankful that Cardinal Dolan could be part of the important event.

"Sacred parish was founded on June 21st, 1912, so we are honored to have the arch bishop present and even more so with the people present, were on the shoulder of many, especially the Italian immigrants, who have built the parish and many of the great things that are being done in the City of Newburgh," said Scafidie.

"Hallelujah I love being with gods people and I love celebrating 100 years of god’s grace of mercy at a beautiful place like this," said Dolan.

Earlier this year, Dolan was elevated to Cardinal by Pope Benedict the 16th.
