PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- Hundreds beat the heat in downtown Pittsfield with a little help from a fire hydrant. It was the second month of the city's Third Thursdays celebration.

The summer-long monthly event features food, music and special deals from businesses.

Meanwhile, residents upset with plans to open a methadone clinic on Stoddard Avenue took their fight to Third Thursday. Some held up posters in Park Square, while others walked petitions up and down North Street.

Those against the plan say their voices are being heard.

"Well, a lot of it just has to do with people getting down to grass roots, talking. Facebook, Facebook is huge with this. We’ve gotten through to a lot of people with Facebook," said Pittsfield resident Robert Skowron.

We're told the controversy will be discussed next week behind closed doors during an executive session with the city council and mayor Dan Bianchi.
