ALBANY, N.Y. -- The mother of Kathina Thomas moved into a brand new house Thursday.

Shondell McAllister's new home comes courtesy of Habitat for Humanity.

McAllister is the mother of Kathina Thomas, the ten-year-old girl who was shot and killed on the front steps of her home four years ago.

Habitat for Humanity director of construction Michael Bufi says he can sympathize with the recipients of all the homes they build, but this case is really special.

Bufi said, "it's tremendously rewarding that way. I mean, I find a little rewarding all the projects I do. When the owners take possession of the buildings and that they're safe buildings. I think in this case, it's especially rewarding, I mean I've really sympathized with a lot of the plights of all our homeowners so far, all have had hardships or just haven't had that extra break to get into home ownership and live a more stable lifestyle."

The new home is on Alexander Street in Albany.
