The Niskayuna boys’ lacrosse team had won six straight sectional championships, until last year. A season ago Shen beat Nisky in the Class A final to claim the crown. This year the rivals met in the title game again.
Nisky beat Shen twice in the regular season. Could they make it 3 for 3 against the Plainsmen?
First quarter Shen up 2-1, the Nisky goalie comes out of the cage after the ball, but it's picked up by Mike Jenkins and makes good on the open net. Shen opened the game on a 4-1 run.
But then the Silver Warriors found their stride. Tanner MacIvor fires one into the top left corner for the goal. Nisky rattles off 5 straight goals to take the 6-5 lead. They led it 8-7 at the half.
Third quarter Shen strikes first, Brian Rogers gets the lefty shot to go to tie the game at 8 apiece.
Nisky answers right back, Blake Pfohl feeds Matt Sexton for the score to give the Silver Warriors the 9-8 lead.
And they heat up from there, 4th quarter Luke Goldstock comes from behind the cage and gets the diving shot to go, that makes it a 4 goal lead for Nisky and they don't look back. They're your sectional champs with the 17-11 win over Shen.
