ALBANY, N.Y. -- The Albany Police Athletic League hosted its annual track and field meet on Thursday.
Students from 19 elementary schools in Albany came together at the UAlbany track. Students were chosen by their schools to compete in the meet.
Officials with PAL say the meet is an opportunity to not only bring kids from across Albany together, but also a chance for law enforcement to get to know the younger generations in the area.
"It helps get the kids involved. The PAL, we’re trying to make a better relationship with kids in the community and we achieve that goal and kids learn how to live a healthy lifestyle, be energetic, get out from behind the TV and get out and compete and enjoy," said Albany Police Chief Steve Krokoff.
The Albany Police Athletic League is a juvenile crime prevention program which connects Albany police officers with the community in a non-law enforcement setting.
