SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- The Schenectady City School District Board of Education adopted a proposed budget of more than $156 million for the 2012-2013 school year.

The proposed budget closes a nearly $7 million gap. It's point-three percent more than the current year and is within the property tax levy limit.

Under the plan, the Oneida Middle School will be closed, and one period of the high school day will be cut. The number of pre-K buildings will be reduced from five to two.

Board of education members said the plan may not be perfect, but they've had to make tough choices in response to funding cuts.

Additionally, 48 positions will also be cut and the work year will be reduced for selected positions by five days.
