LAGRANGE, N.Y. -- One person has died and four others are now facing charges after a home invasion in the Town of LaGrange.

State Police say around 10:30 p.m. Monday, they were called to a home on Hettinger Road for a report of a possible burglary. They say a man with a sawed off rifle confronted a trooper who responded and attacked him. The trooper then shot the suspect, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

State Police say they arrested four other suspects who were found within a mile radius of the home.

Alphonso Brown, Evan Davis, Dwayne White and Kevin Madison have all been charged with robbery and burglary. They were arraigned and sent to Dutchess County Jail.

Police say no one else was seriously hurt.

"The occupants of the residence were accounted for and lead to safety and the troopers were later brought to the hospital, where they were treated and released," said New York State Police Major Michael Kopy.

Police didn't say whether the suspects knew the people who lived in the home.
