DUTCHESS COUNTY, N.Y. -- One person was shot and killed during a home invasion in LaGrange. It happened around 10:30 p.m. Monday when officers got a call for a burglary in progress at the intersection of Smith and Hettinger roads.

Troopers said they came across a person with a shotgun. One person was shot at the scene and pronounced dead. There's no word on whether the person that was killed was a suspect, or a possible victim of the home invasion.

"There were a number of subjects who were involved in the burglary. At this point it would be premature to discuss anything further regarding that. One subject was in fact shot at the scene....he was pronounced dead at the scene,” said Major Michael Kopy, New York State Police.

Officers did say that they have taken several suspects into custody. It is not clear if anyone else was injured.
