ALBANY, N.Y. -- New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli toured a local social media company to highlight investments in New York businesses.
WhoSay received funding through New York’s Common Retirement Fund.
DiNapoli says since 2000, the program fund has invested more than $52 million in Capital Region businesses. The company allows celebrities to manage their own online content. Some clients include Tom Hanks, Magic Johnson and Gwyneth Paltrow.
"The benefit of this program is first and foremost, to make money for the pension fund and we are pleased that it does it in a way that supports economic growth and development across our state," DiNapoli said.
DiNapoli says the program has also invested a total of $608 million in roughly 220 companies statewide.
