CENTRAL VALLEY, N.Y. -- Dozens of people are sick, and many taken to local hospitals, after coming down with food poisoning at a festival in Kent Sunday.

Putnam County Emergency Officials say nearly 700 people attended the event at a Buddhist Monastery in Kent Cliffs, and 500 of them were tourists from Chinatown.

After the festival the group made a stop at Woodbury Common where officials say several people started reporting symptoms of food poisoning. Nearly 150 people were taken to local hospitals in Putnam, Orange and Westchester counties before nightfall.

Clifford Weeks of the Woodbury Police Department said, "Nothing directly related to the Woodbury Commons. This just happened to be where they were ending up their day. We did suffer a few language barriers seeing as many of the victims only spoke Chinese."

Officials are urging anyone who attended the party at the Monastery in Kent and feeling ill to call the Putnam County Health Department at (845) 808-1390.
