Man subject of Norman Rockwell painting laid to rest

SARATOGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- An iconic figure and World War II veteran was laid to rest in Schuylerville on Friday.

Richard Clemens gained fame for appearing in Norman Rockwell's painting "The Runaway." The Saturday Evening Post featured the painting on its cover in 1958.

Clemens was a Massachusetts State Police Officer at the time. He was also as a police officer in Virginia and served in the Marines during World War II and the Korean War.

Clemens was interred at the National Cemetery in Schuylerville. He was 83.
