MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. -- Senator Chuck Schumer says FEMA is dragging its feet on $7 million in flood repairs for Middletown.

Schumer says storms Irene and Lee damaged drainage systems and other infrastructure and that the city is at risk for further flooding. He is calling on FEMA to make immediate repairs to flood walls and roads that have been damaged since last fall.

Mayor Joe DeStefano said he applauds the senator for getting a handle on the situation. He said FEMA's delays in federal aid is hurting city taxpayers.

Schumer says Middletown engineers and city planners have taken all the necessary steps to receive that aid.
