Law enforcement officers in two North Country counties are on the lookout for the same man who they believe falsely posed as a federal official. YNN's Matt Hunter has more on the man's suspicious behavior.

QUEENSBURY, N.Y. – "This was alarming to the staff,” said Lieutenant Steven Stockdale with the Warren County Sheriff’s Office. “As you're very well aware, we're in a heightened sense of security nationwide."

On the morning of Friday, April 20th, staff at the Warren County Department of Public Health got an unexpected visitor.

As is quite often the case, the man claimed to represent the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, only in this instance, he refused to show any form of official identification.

"When somebody purports to be a representative of a state or federal agency, they typically produce credentials to corroborate that,” Stockdale said. “So his intent is unknown at this point and we'd like to determine what that is."

According to Stockdale, the man, whose image was captured in surveillance photos, left after reportedly taking pictures of the outside of the building.

Later that same morning, he popped up again, this time at nearby Washington County's Public Health Office.

Staff at the Washington County Department of Public Health told sheriff's deputies the man did essentially the same thing. He asked to verify the address of the building and refused to show any form of ID when asked.

In Washington County, it's believed he was asked to leave the property before getting the chance to take any pictures.

"The staff that was interviewed didn't reveal too much more information other than that,” Stockdale said. “It was just bizarre."

Stockdale says a call to the state Inspector General's Office revealed the man had no affiliation with the state or federal governments.

Despite the surveillance photos, investigators still have no suspects and are now seeking the public's help to track him down.

"Maybe there's nothing illicit about this activity or this conduct, but we need the opportunity to interview this gentleman to determine his intent," Stockdale said.

Lieutenant Stockdale says it's not yet clear what, if any, charges the man would face.
