ALBANY, N.Y. – Today, the state honored the memory of 27 police officers who died in the line to duty. The annual Police Officers’ Memorial Remembrance Ceremony was held at the memorial wall on Empire State Plaza.

Among those remembered include eight officers from local, county and state agencies and one federal agent, as well as 13 members of the New York City Police Department who died of illnesses while working at the World Trade Center following the 9/11 attacks.

The memorial honors more than 1,300 officers who have lost their lives in service to communities across New York State.
