POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- The Poughkeepsie common council has given the go ahead for plans to bring a luxury waterfront development to the area.

Mayor John Tkazyik says this has been a focal point of his administration. The $100 million project will bring 384 condos and townhouses to the site of the former Dutton lumber yard.

The project will enter a three year construction phase, generating 30 permanent positions and more than 500 construction jobs.

Developers from the O'Neill Group purchased the former Dutton lumber yard in 2004 and are cleaning up the brownfields.

The proposal now heads to the planning board for final approval.
