TROY, N.Y. -- Coaches took a swing at cancer at the second annual Coaches Versus Cancer Classic at Troy High School.
The game was started by the boys’ varsity baseball team. Soon, the varsity softball team, JV softball and JV baseball teams also joined in.
The Troy School District lost one of its teachers last year to cancer and her family was on hand Monday night.
Also, throwing out the first pitch was former Troy athlete and cancer survivor Chaz Tangredi.
Troy's mayor says the event means a lot to the community.
"As having gone through this myself, the support you get from friends family and people you don't even know, it makes you speechless," Troy Mayor Lou Rosamilia said.
"We've been touched inside our Troy community recently and we all felt it and we felt it in so many other ways," said Troy Athletic Director Paul Reinisch.
Troy high's team was the first baseball team to put together a coaches versus cancer event.
