The president is expected to speak in the new NanoFab "X" facility being built on the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering Campus. YNN's Beth Croughan caught up with two businesses directly involved in that project and has more on their involvement in the region's growing high-tech manufacturing industry

ALBANY, N.Y. -- "A lot of it is why, you know, why we think the president is coming," said M+W U.S. CEO Rick Whitney.

It being why M+W U.S. came to the Capital Region. Whitney said they decided to make the move from Dallas in 2010. Among a growing technology cluster, Whitney said the engineering and construction company has grown itself.

"In the Tech Valley, we've got about 800 employees now. Which is a significant increase from 2010 when we announced that we were coming here. We were just about 75,” he explained.

About 100 work out of their U.S. headquarters at the Watervliet Arsenal. Many others on site at some of the area’s major projects, which includes the new NanoFab X facility on UAlbany's Nanotech campus. It's where Whitney said Tuesday's event will be staged.

"We're excited to have him see that brand new facility. Which is a great facility for the next stage of 450 consortium development of the technology," he said.

As researchers and developers in the nano electronics industry transition to the next stage, Daniel Pickett has transitioned his company to do the same. The Clifton Park-based Nfrastructure is helping to design and manage technology in the new multi-million dollar facility.

"We're fortunate to have companies like GlobalFoundries and the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering, you know, among our partners and our customers. And that really, what we've learned from working with those companies, has positioned us to also meet the needs of all the other companies that are coming to the area," said Pickett.

Companies participating in a continued growth that has caught the eye of the president three times.
