TROY, N.Y. -- It was a Wednesday when the President of Hudson Valley Community College got a call the President wanted to come to campus. Dr. Drew Matonak says he arrived on Monday afternoon.

A short turn-around in September 2009 and the spotlight is shined on the school in Troy.

"And at that time, he was promoting a bill for funding for community colleges to be able to do even a greater job with providing the workforce that we need," the President of HVCC explained.

The focus of his speech primarily surrounded a workforce in the manufacturing and technology industries. It's where the region has seen recent job growth as investments are made across Tech Valley.

Fifteen months after his first stop, President Obama paid another visit to the Capital Region. This time, he stopped in Schenectady.

"We had a room set up for our students to have a chance to see it live," said Dr. Quintin Bullock, the President of Schenectady County Community College.

Students watched as President Obama spoke just down the road.

"I did have the opportunity to go to GE to witness and hear the president speak about the excellent work that's being done here in the area regarding manufacturing technology," said Dr. Bullock

But Bullock said the second stop shined another light on the connection to area colleges.

And it appears like history will repeat itself for a third time, as the president will once again highlight the region's technology based-economy and the educational opportunities that come with it.
