ALBANY, N.Y. -- A familiar food co-op in Albany could soon have a new home. The Honest Weight Food Co-op may move a mile up the road from its current location on Central Avenue to Watervliet Avenue.
The Albany's planning board is discussing whether to demolish 100 Watervliet Avenue to make way for a 30,000 square foot supermarket.
The co-op has been looking to move to this site for a few years now and they've gone through a few different design processes. Some of those processes cost too much money and financing fell through. Now they're looking at the site once again with a reduced budget.
Organizers say they're working with the city to make sure they get the best design possible.
"We're always anxious to get a new building. They’re growing out of the store that they're in right now. They're still doing financially fantastic and they are a wonderful company to work with," said Jay Stasack, an associate at Envision Architects.
The new co-op would actually be five times bigger than the current one.
