POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- A local hospital celebrates a big birthday.

Vassar Brothers Hospital opened its doors 125 years ago. In honor of the day, a cake was presented to the hospital which read, "Celebrating 125 Years of Caring."

John and Matthew Vassar funded the center with $1 million.

"Really is an exciting day for us to appreciate and recognize the great contribution they made to the community and also step forward and celebrate our great successes over time and our future," said Vassar Brothers Medical Center President Janet Ready.

The hospital opened back in 1887.
