SARATOGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- Harness racing is scheduled to resume at the Saratoga Raceway after a strangles outbreak a few weeks ago. Strangles is an upper respiratory infection that is not life-threatening. The Raceway cancelled live harness racing as a precaution due to several cases found in the backstretch.
The outbreak also put other raceways around the state on edge. Many have implemented strict health checks and wouldn't allow horses to be shipped between tracks.
