COLUMBIA COUNTY, N.Y. -- The Columbia County Sheriff's office is asking for the public’s help in trying to locate the person they say robbed a bank in the Town of Greenport. Deputies said it happened around 4 p.m. Monday at the Bank of Greene County in the Fairview Plaza.
They said the suspect walked up to a bank teller and demanded money. Deputies said the teller handed over an undisclosed amount of cash and the person ran off. Investigators believe the suspect could have ties to other robberies.
"We are hopeful, we put the photograph out, someone may recognize him, which will help the investigation along. We have information that the suspect may be involved in some other robberies, that occurred in the Western part of the state. We are looking into that as well," said Kevin Skype, Columbia County Sheriff’s Senior Investigator.
Officials said no one was hurt during the incident.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office at (518) 828-3344.
