ALBANY, N.Y. -- The Mohawk Hudson Humane Society is offering kids a chance to adopt stuffed animals this Easter weekend, instead of their real counterparts.

Officials said it's a way to prevent any impulse buys of animals like bunnies or chicks for Easter, since this time of year, it happens frequently. They said if you're interested, hold off a short while, just to be sure you're making the right decision.

On Saturday, kids signed certificates, promising not to adopt a real bunny for Easter.
While the Humane Society says their screening process would prevent a lot of people from getting that bouncing buddy, they can't prevent *others from making the mistake.

Brad Shear, Executive Director at Mohawk Hudson Humane Society said, “Our concern is they'll get them from some other source, the mall or somewhere where there's easy access to them and what will happen is well see them 4 to 6 months down the road when people don’t want them anymore. "

Now if you do have a bunny and you change your mind, officials said not to release the animals into the wild. Domestic bunnies rely on humans for shelter, food and water and cannot survive in the wild. So sticking to chocolate bunnies and stuffed animals is often a better option.
