DUTCHESS COUNTY, N.Y. -- People in Poughkeepsie are taking advantage of the holiday weekend's warmer weather to do a little spring cleaning.

Today kicks off the town's first of eight household hazardous waste collection projects aimed at protecting the environment.

Solid waste officials say this is a convenient way for people to ensure hazardous household wastes do not end up in our environment.

Popular items include chemicals marked as flammable, poisonous, or corrosive as well as old electronic equipment like televisions, computer monitors and printers. Unused or expired prescription Medication will also be accepted for proper disposal.

Today's collection takes place at the Dutchess County Resource Recovery Agency.
