TARRYTOWN, N.Y. -- Plans for the new Tappan Zee Bridge are moving forward, but officials are still trying to figure out what do do with the old bridge.
One proposal is to turn the bridge into a park similar to the Walkway Over the Hudson and the High Line in New York City.
The Tappan Bridge Park Alliance has been working on a proposal to convert the bridge into a park.
One concern is the structural integrity of the bridge. However, the group says safety is the project's number one concern.
Tappan Bridge Park Co-Founder Milagros Lecuona said, "There are other issues that relate to the structure. So this is the main concern of course, and as you said, Cuomo came in support of this. He said it was an exciting conversion, which I completely agree with him, but we have to be real. We have to face safety, and we are asking for a feasibility study on the structure of the bridge."
