GUILDERLAND, N.Y. -- State Assemblyman George Amedore announces he will make a run for a seat in the New York State Senate.

Amedore launched his Senate campaign Wednesday, leading the way on his jobs tour of the new 46th district.

Amedore's jobs tour stresses the importance of small businesses. He said they are necessary for job creation and strengthening communities.

Amedore addressed a crowd of supporters at his personal business, Amedore Homes, in Guilderland.

A Republican assemblyman since 2007, Amedore said running a small business has given him the skill set to get the job done in the Senate. He said he will press the government to do a better job of encouraging the growth of small businesses.

"They do not want a government that overtaxes, overspends and gets in the way of the American dream," Amedore said. "So I am here today to run for the state Senate, to make sure that the values of America, the values of we the people, are put forth in the state Senate."

Amedore made stops throughout the district, which spans Ulster, Green, Albany, Schenectady and Montgomery counties.
