SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- Schenectady County Community College showed off its brand new housing units, hoping to attract even more students to the school.

College officials say the school's enrollment has been hitting record numbers, but they want to be an attractive option for all types of students, including ones that live far away.

School leaders say having housing will add to the experience of choosing SC-C for higher education, because students will be closer to classes and right near historic downtown Schenectady.

Starting in September, 246 two person and four person apartments will be available.

"The furnishing that are in this apartment is everything that comes with this apartment. The only thing students will need to bring are the wall units, window coverings and any personal items that they might need. And this is going to help them be better students at Schenectady Community College," said Martha Asselan, VP of Student Affairs.

SCCC joins a list of other community colleges adding housing. Just last month, SUNY Adirondack announced plans to construct a $25 million, 148,000 square foot dormitory complex.
