TROY, N.Y. -- Walkers took steps to a healthier lifestyle as part of National Walking Day!

Hundreds of workers at the Rensselaer Tech Park put on their walking shoes in Troy Wednesday morning to walk 1.8 miles.

Walking is an easy way to improve heart health. The American Heart Association says that walking vigorously for 30 minutes every day has a host of health benefits.

"Thirty minutes of any type of exercise, walking in particular, can bring on all sorts of benefits that can help you maintain a healthy weight, it can help you maintain healthy blood pressure, lower cholesterol and just really feel good," said Meredith Cohn, Director of the American Heart Association.

The American Heart Association says adults should get at least 150 minutes of moderate intensity physical activity a week.
