It took three years and some Vatican intervention, but mass was held once again St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in Adams. YNN's C.J. Spang take us inside a very special Palm Sunday service.

ADAMS, MASS. -- "There were times when we thought it would not happen, it would never been open," said St. Sanislaus Kostka parishioner Linda Troy. " Then secretly in your heart, you knew that if we tried hard enough and prayed hard enough and stood our vigil, that God would bless us and it would happen."

St. Stan's last mass happened on New Year's Eve of 2008. The Archdiocese of Springfield wanted to close the church and consolidate it into a new one. Parishioners appealed to the Vatican and held 24-hour vigils at the church for 1,150 straight days.

"It's marvelous. It's a miracle," said parishioner Fran Bulsa. "Everybody is so happy because it has been our mainstay of the Catholic Church of the Polish heritage that's been here for 100 years-plus."

"I can remember nights where you lay in bed and your thoughts are just sort of drifting, and every once in awhile, they'd happen upon the church," said parishioner Nicolas Malloy. "You can only hope. We did say quite a few prayers. And obviously someone was listening."

In February of this year, the Diocese agreed mass would resume. The standing-room only Palm Sunday service marked the first mass since the decision.

"Hopefully this will bring us the unity and peace we need in this community," said Reverend Daniel Boyle. "It's a great start to the whole thing. It's been a tough three years but we've weathered the storm and we're moving ahead."

Going forward, St. Stan's will share resources with Pope John Paul the Great Parish.
