TROY, N.Y. -- Fire crews battled a fire at a house in Troy. It happened at 681 Third Avenue around 2:15 p.m. Friday.

Several fire companies were at the scene trying to put it out.

The fire chief says there was fire blowing out the front windows and out of the second floor windows when they arrived. They didn't know if anyone was inside the home, but later determined the building was empty.

The fire was close to other houses in the area, but officials say it did not spread to other buildings.

“It's always difficult when buildings are this close, but that's common in the cities and it's something we prepare for," said Troy Fire Chief Tom Garrett.

Fire officials are still trying to determine the cause.
