ULSTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- A bridge in Ulster County that was damaged in Tropical Storm Irene and Lee is going to be repaired. The Bridge Street bridge is the main bridge into Phoenicia.
Officials originally believed the bridge was irreparable, but that's not the case. County Executive Mike Hein said an assessment by an engineering firm found the bridge can be fixed.
The Ulster County bridge crew is expected to be able to repair the bridge to the hamlet.
The storms caused more than $15 million in damages to county infrastructure. Hein said reopening the bridge is an important step in recovering from the storms. Hein said the bridge should be reopen by the July 4th weekend.
