Man rescued after canoe capsizes

TICONDEROGA, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a man is recovering after he was rescued from the frigid waters of Lake George when his canoe capsized.

Police said the man was canoeing off the shore of Ticonderoga on the northern end of Lake George Wednesday afternoon when a wave knocked him over.

Police say a woman spotted the man in the water and alerted her husband, who jumped into a rowboat and rowed to where the man was floating.

Officers say the canoeist spent 15 to 20 minutes in the 40-degree water but was wearing a life jacket. He was taken to the hospital in Ticonderoga for treatment.

The man who rescued him was treated for an asthma attack he experienced during the rescue.
