NEWBURGH, N.Y. -- A community still grieving was filled with frustration and anger as they came together in search of answers just weeks after the fatal shooting of 22-year-old Michael Lembhard.

After marches and rallies were held in the City of Newburgh and heated clashes at city council meetings, Thursday's meeting was more peaceful.

Panel members and community members discussed Lembhard's death and what'll take to heal the community.

Lembhard was shot earlier this month after police say he lunged at officers with a knife. The incident sparked outrage from his family and many other Newburgh residents, with many questioning the officers' use of deadly force.

A representative from the NAACP, one of the organizations that spoke at the forum, says the group wants justice, but in a peaceful manner.

"We want to create an environment so that citizens can walk down the street and not have to worry about being attacked or bothered by the police. There’s always a need, but if you want to have reduction in crime and have a community living in peace, there must be a positive relationship between the police and the community. That does not happen here," said NAACP Legal Chair Leroy Gadsen.

The department says officers followed procedure in the incident. Those officers are currently on administrative leave.

On Saturday, another march will be held in Newburgh, where we are told more than one thousand people are expected to attend.
