TROY, N.Y. -- Troy officials unveiled a new law enforcement initiative in an effort to curb violent crime in the city. It comes after two recent fatal shootings in the city.

On Monday, the mayor and police chief detailed the specifics of the new PEACE initiative, which stands for Patrol Enhancement and Active Community Engagement. They plan to increase the presence of officers around the city and put more emphasis on foot patrols. It's part of an effort to increase communication between the public and the police department.

Troy Police have also scheduled two gun buyback events, set for May. They're also planning to use a grant from the Homeland Security Department to add a new K-9 patrol dog to the force and they will establish an emergency response team, similar to a SWAT team.
