Police: Albany man caught burglarizing apartment
ALBANY, N.Y. -- An Albany man was arrested after police said he was caught burglarizing an apartment on South Pearl Street early Wednesday morning.
Two detectives responded to 267 South Pearl Street around 3 a.m. after a neighbor called 911 to report she heard loud noises and believed someone was breaking into the building next door.
The detectives caught the suspect, Tavel Harris, coming out the back of the building carrying a suitcase filled with computer equipment, which was valued at $1,000.
Police said Harris tore down a wooden gate to get into an alley near the building, then forced his way through the back door and entered the apartment. The resident was not home at the time.
Harris was arrested and charged with second-degree burglary and fourth-degree grand larceny.
