NEWBURGH, N.Y. -- Regina Lewis is one of several Newburgh residents who angrily lash out at city officials. It occurs Friday during a news conference which provides details of officers actions in the police involved shooting death of Michael Lembhard.

A day later in her Town of Newburgh living room, Lewis' wrath has lessened little as she rails against cops for their role in the shooting.

"I'd like to see the chief of police resign," said Lewis.

In an attempt to ease the tension between the public and the police, city officials have requested the governor appoint a special independent prosecutor to take over the investigation currently underway by state police and the Orange County District Attorney's Office.

"I think if we don't ride this investigation, if we don't stand strong and firm, this too will be brushed off," said Lewis.

While Lewis said the family's complete side of the story still needs to be told in this tragic case, elsewhere in the city - plans are already underway to unify a community that some might say this week, has shown signs of coming apart.

Inside the House of Refuge on Broadway, Bishop Jeffrey Woody details the plans of religious leaders in Newburgh who plan to meet this week.

"One thing definitely that the ministers are asking is that when we gather together in a community forum that people will be there in a peaceful manner. Because we're trying to come to a resolution. We can't yell and scream at each other to get to the bottom of things. Let cooler heads prevail if you will," said Woody.

But according to Woody there are questions the people in this city without a doubt deserve answers to.

"We're just trying to bring about peace, so that we can get justice," said Woody.
