Trial begins Tuesday for two accused of ballot fraud
TROY, N.Y. -- Jury selection wrapped up Thursday afternoon for two Troy democrats accused of ballot fraud.
Former Councilmember Michael LoPorto and Rensselaer County Democratic Elections Commissioner Ed McDonough are accused of stealing votes for Democratic candidates in the 2009 Working Families primary by forging absentee ballots.
According to special prosecutor Trey Smith, their trial is scheduled for next Tuesday at 9 a.m.
Eight people were charged in the investigation led by Smith and the State Police. Four have already pleaded guilty to charges and two others have been indicted.
