ALBANY, N.Y. -- Albany Police Chief Stephen Krokoff is slated to appear before the Albany Common Council this evening. He is expected to talk about how the Albany Police Department responded to the Occupy Albany movement, and how his officers dismantled the encampment at Academy Park on December 22nd.
Several protesters were pepper-sprayed by officers that evening, and four people were arrested. A few others were injured in the chaos that followed.
Albany Mayor Jerry Jennings has defended the actions taken by police, saying that safety was always the main concern. But members of the Occupy group say officers used excessive force when dealing with protestors.
At this point, it is not clear if Krokoff will address the shooting of 19-year-old Nahcream Moore. He was shot and killed last Friday night by police on Pearl Street. Police say he pulled a gun on them, while the community is calling the death an injustice.
