ALBANY, N.Y. -- Students at St. Rose College are going bald in honor of children around the world. Students participating in St. Balderick's Day are shaving their heads to raise awareness and support for kids with cancer.

The student association will donate the money they raise to the St. Balderick's foundation, which raises money to support pediatric cancer research within the U.S.

The foundation says every year, 160,000 children are diagnosed with cancer worldwide. They say cancer is the number one disease children die of in the U.S. and Canada.

“As you can hear they're all cheering, they're shaving their heads bald in solidarity with all the children who suffer with childhood cancer, so they sign up online and people sponsor them and they shave their heads completely bald, and we have a couple girls signed up which is always super exciting," Kait Rooney, event organizer.

In April, the St. Rose Student Association held a St. Balderick’s Day with a goal of donating $5,000 and ended up raising and donating $7,000.

They're also selling other items to raise money for the cause, and they've already raised just over $8,000 as of this morning.
