ALBANY, N.Y. -- The Albany Stratton VA Medical Center has received a big donation. The Vietnam Veterans of America, Adirondack Chapter 79 and Capital District Chapter 8 presented the hospital with a check for more than $7,000.

This was thanks to the "Honor Our Vets Car Show," which was hosted last year at the medical center.

More than 250 cars were registered for a minimum donation of $10.

The president of Adirondack Chapter 79 says the car show not only raised money for veterans, but it was also nice to get them out of the hospital for the day.

"Living in a hospital is not a pleasant atmosphere. Some of these guys are in there for long periods. They get to get out of the hospital, come out to see classic cars. Some of these folks are older, they remember these cars, they drove themselves years ago," President John Svandrlik said.

"It allows us to support some veterans needs that funds cannot pay for and in some cases it also contributes to purchasing additional equipment for the hospital," Albany Stratton VA Medical Center Director Linda Weiss said.

The second annual "Honor Our Vets Car Show" will be held this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
