MORIAH, N.Y. -- Governor Andrew Cuomo tours a North Country town ravaged by flooding during this week's storms.
Cuomo flew by helicopter to the Town of Moriah in Essex County to look at the damage and discuss recovery efforts with local officials. He got an up-close look at the Broad Street bridge, which collapsed on Wednesday.
Officials said the Town of Moriah sustained more than $1.5 million in damage, and county-wide, officials said there was about $2 million in damage to roads and bridges. Dozens of roads across Essex County remain closed.
A state disaster emergency has been declared in Essex County, which means state resources will be diverted to help rebuild the area.
Cuomo said, "In a situation like this, we're going to deploy the state resources to assist in the repairs, and then we're going to have to figure out the funding. But as I said, we're here to help, we're here to get the job done, and we'll figure out the funding as step two."
Cuomo said he is assessing the situation to determine if the state is eligible for federal funding.
