Man indicted on aggravated harassment charges
ALBANY COUNTY, N.Y. -- A Department of Civil Service lawyer and retired New York City Police Officer has been indicted on 11 counts of aggravated harassment as a hate crime.
James Hennessey, 58, has been accused of making threatening and racist phone calls to several people, hiding the origin of the calls with an internet service.
The Albany County District Attorney says the targets included African Americans, people with black spouses or relatives and landlords renting to blacks.
The Albany Police Department and FBI investigators were able to trace the calls to Hennessey, who was arrested last October. He is scheduled to be arraigned Friday.
Defense attorney Terence Kindlon says Hennessey will plead not guilty.
