Five years ago, 19-year-old Suzanne Lyall mysteriously disappeared from the University of Albany's parking lot. And to honor her memory her parents, Doug and Mary Lyall, were offering their support in preventing child abduction.

"We wanted to support the efforts of safety programs of safety programs like these, they're very important," said Doug.

The Lyalls said they're still hoping their daughter will walk through the door at their home someday, returning to their lives. But they said no matter what happens, they will be dedicating themselves to getting their message out to the local community.

Doug said, "We would like to do everything we can to prevent other families from going through what we had to go through."

The Lyalls attended a free Fingerprinting and ID Day in Schenectady on Sunday. They were joined by Assemblyman James Tedisco at the event. He is working with the Lyalls to get a new law passed that would make the penalties more severe for assaults or abductions near a school or college. It is called Suzanne's Law, but lawmakers haven't had any luck in getting it passed.

Tedisco said, "I believe 59 voted for it last year. They are going to vote for it this year, so it's tough to understand because we're not getting any answers."

The Lyalls said it was a tough day for their family, but said it doesn't have to be that way for anyone else.

Mary said, "We never thought it would happen to us and I really think this is an important thing. You really need to follow up, to do as much as possible to make your children safe."

Recently, the Lyalls started the Center for Hope, an organization in Ballston Spa that helps families with the problems associated with missing persons.
