The Spa Spot: Mott secures his birthday victory
Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott picked up another victory on his birthday Sunday and served up a familiar but still very funny line in the winner's circle after the race.
Mott has a knack for winning races on this birthday and Alaura Michele provided the triumph for his 59th in the ninth race. She was the last of Mott's three starters on the program.
Mott grinned at a second round of questions about winning on his birthday and repeated what he said in 2010.
"It's like lions eating wildebeest, I suppose," Mott said, chuckling and pausing ever so briefly for effect. "Part of nature's plan."
Alaura Michele won the Nani Rose Stakes by a length and paid $15.60. According to New York Racing Association stats, a $2 win bet placed on each of Mott's starters on July 29 since 2006 would have yielded a profit of $42.
