ULSTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- People in Ulster County gathered to support juvenile diabetes as they get ready for the 2012 Walk to Cure Diabetes.
Last year's event raised more than $90,000 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and the group is looking to raise more money at this year’s walk in September.
Walk to Cure ambassadors were awarded at Thursday night’s gathering. The group says the funds they raise supports the JDRF research and education.
“You know, I see the research is getting closer and closer all the time. My son’s been diagnosed for three years. He was diagnosed with type one when he was seven and we're hoping within his lifetime, he doesn't have to cope with this any longer,” said James Michael.
YNN's Alexandra Weisphaut emceed the kickoff event.
The walk is in Ulster County on September 23rd and supports the JDRF.
