ORANGE COUNTY, N.Y. -- Some chicken wing eating in Chester will help some World War II vets take wings down to Washington, D.C. to see the World War II Memorial this weekend.

The trip is planned for Saturday, where vets will take the trip for free.

The Hudson Valley Honor Flight group held the Wing Fling Fundraiser to help raise money for the trip. Event organizers say the trip is all about showing appreciation to veterans for the sacrifices they've made.

"We are so excited to be part of this,” said Town of Chester Supervisor Steve Neuhaus. “These men and women are walking history books and it's a small way of saying thank you."

"Somebody called me the other day and said ‘If you don't have some tears after looking at the memorial, you don't have a heart,’" said Senator William Larkin.

The vets heading to D.C. this weekend will also make a stop at Arlington National Cemetery where they will see the changing of the guard.
