SYRACUSE, N.Y. – YNN is following breaking news out of Syracuse University: Fab Melo did not make the trip Pittsburgh. S.U. confirms that the sophomore center will not be playing in the NCAA Tournament due to eligibility issues.

Due to federal and student privacy rules, the university says it cannot give out any more information.

One of the Orange's two losses of the year came during Melo's first stint without the team this season when he missed three games because of academic issues.

The rules of academic eligibility are clearly written out on the NCAA's website. Here is an excerpt of the guidelines.

They state:
"Student-athletes must meet academic standards throughout their careers on campus to remain eligible to participate in intercollegiate athletics. Member institutions in each division create academic standards specific to that division’s goals.

In Division I, student-athletes must complete 40 percent of the coursework required for a degree by the end of their second year. They must complete 60 percent by the end of their third year and 80 percent by the end of their fourth year.

Once again, Syracuse University is not talking about the exact issue involving Fab Melo's eligibility, however these are the rules he would have to follow to remain eligible.
And Fab's absence, is being talked about by many.

It even became a trending topic on twitter this afternoon and of course it's the topic of conversation on local radio.

"What this does, the margin for error gets slimmer for Syracuse. A lot of things have to be made up without the presence of Fab Melo,” said Brent Axe.

Brent Axe with his take there on his afternoon radio show "On the Block." As you can imagine, SU fans also have something to say about this.
