Rangers take series lead after triple overtime win
WASHINGTON, DC -- The New York Rangers make a big statement on the road against the Washington Capitals.
The blueshirts fought through three overtime periods to come away with a narrow 2-1 victory. The Rangers quieted the crowd midway through the second period when Ryan Callahan caught the rebound off a Michael Del Zotto shot to lead the Rangers 1-0.
Only four minutes after that play Washington defenseman John Carlson answered back putting a shot over the shoulder of Henrik Lundqvist to tie the game at 1-1.
During the third overtime, with only five minutes left, Brad Richards finds Marian Gaborik out in front of the net who buries the puck for the Ranger win in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Semifinal series.
Game 4 is slated for Saturday afternoon in Washington.
