GREENVILLE, N.C. -- Last year at this time Jeff Hoffman was pitching for Shaker, and helped lead the Blue Bison all the way to the state championship game by seasons end.

Now he's staring for East Carolina University and pitching against some of the best competition in the country.

Hoffman is 1-1 this season with a 2.39 ERA. He has started six of his last seven appearances for ECU after coming out of the bullpen to start the season. Currently East Carolina is ranked 27th in the country.

One of his best performances of the year came on Wednesday night. Hoffman got the start for ECU against 10th ranked North Carolina.

Hoffman went seven innings, gave up just five hits and no runs for the Pirates. He stuck out five, but took a no decision as the UNC won the game 1-0 in 10 innings.
